The Difference Engine and the analytical engine
This computer was built in 1822 by Charles Babbage and he called it the Difference Engine. This machine was a calculator that used the ten numbers 0-9 and could only calculate with whole numbers. Babbage got help with the Difference Engine from Ada Lovelace who was considered to be the worlds first computer programmer. Charles Babbage also built the Analytical Engine which he wanted to be a general purpose machine.
This is a picture of the Analytical Engine, the second computer that Charles Babbage designed. He started building the engine in the 1830's but died in 1871 when only part of it was finished being built. His son Henry Babbage completed the Analytical Engine for him and it was able to complete basic calculations.
